“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
[Matthew 22:36-40]
Mangyans are composed of twelve tribes, each with its own language, culture, and way of life. There are the Iraya, Batangan, Buid, Hanuno'o, Alangan, Ratagnon, Tagaydan (or Tadyawan), Bangon, Pula, Buhid, Nauhan, and Furuan. They are sometimes called sandugo. Individually, one is also called sandugo (from the root word of sanduguan) which means brotherhood or friend in the Mangyan dialect. Also, it refers to as kapatid and as generations pass it evolves into a shorter term dugoy or in jargon (kanto term) tol.
